NK FITRACE
On Sunday, 21 June, the first Dutch National Championship Fitness Racing will take place in Rotterdam. The championship is organised during Fitrace, powered by NL Actief, and marks an important milestone in the further development of fitness racing as an official sport discipline in the Netherlands.
Fitness racing is a hybrid training format that combines strength and endurance. The growth and development of this sport have been visible for some time in fitness clubs and studios. What was missing until now was a national, structured competition framework that supports and safeguards this development. By organising this National Championship, the Dutch Fitness Federation (NLFB) is explicitly taking responsibility for this role.
As a federation, we consider it our responsibility to provide widely practised but competitively oriented sports with:
- a clear and safe competition format
- sporting legitimacy
- integration within the existing national sports structure
The National Championship Fitness Racing is therefore not just an event, but a first formal step towards broader recognition and continued development of fitness racing as a sport. For fitness entrepreneurs, this creates clear opportunities: a tangible national sporting moment that aligns with daily training practices in clubs and studios, and gives athletes a clear goal to train towards.
The first Fitrace event is powered by NL Actief, the trade association for sport and physical activity entrepreneurs in the Netherlands. NL Actief represents more than 1,200 fitness clubs, personal trainers and sports professionals, all working daily towards a healthier and more active society.
By linking Fitrace to NL Actief, the event becomes not only a sporting challenge, but also a platform to showcase the strength of the fitness sector — from the clubs where athletes train to the professionals who guide and support them.
Fitrace is designed to be accessible, offering multiple levels and participation formats (individual and doubles), making it possible for a broad range of athletes to take part. At the same time, the championship is embedded within clear frameworks that are appropriate for a national title competition.
Will you become the very first winner of the Dutch National Championship Fitness Racing?
The National Championship will be held at the Advanced level for both Singles and Doubles. Participants can become champions within their own division and age category. The age categories are: 16–25, 26–35, 36–45, 46–55, 56–65, and 66+. More information, rules and guidelines can be found in the official competition regulations.
About the NLFB
The NLFB is responsible for the sporting integrity of fitness racing, ensuring clear regulations, trained officials, codes of conduct and a safe competition structure.
The federation develops competition rules, educates officials, stimulates progression from recreational athletes to elite competitors, and represents the sport at governmental level, within NOC*NSF, and towards international federations.
In this way, fitness racing gains not only experience and excitement, but also legitimacy and alignment with the national sports framework.
Every participant in Fitrace automatically becomes a member of the NLFB. Together, we are building a strong community and investing in quality, talent development and fair play.
